This week we're crawling back to 2001 for Hoobastank's debut single “Crawling in the Dark.”
On paper, it’s peak early-2000s rock. Big riff. Huge chorus. Doug Robb sounding like he’s fighting for his life.
Then we actually read the lyrics.
Why is he crawling? Why is it dark? Why won’t he turn the fucking light on? And why does the whole thing start sounding suspiciously like someone desperately trying to escape John Wayne Gacy’s crawl space?
Elsewhere, Mad Dog somehow identifies a Finnish man purely by looking at his name; we discover the forgotten rollerblading video game Aggressive Inline, and Gav prepares for a four-on-one fight against 2001 Hoobastank using nothing but two blades, complete nudity and an irresponsible amount of grapeseed oil.
It makes sense in context.
Sort of.
