Sugar, Sugar – The Archies | 1001 Songs That Make You Want To Die

The biggest song of 1969 was made by a band that didn’t even exist.

This week we’re taking on “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies, the cartoon bubblegum-pop juggernaut that somehow conquered the entire planet.

We investigate whether Big Sugar was secretly running the music industry, discover that Apollo 12 astronauts were apparently dancing to this thing on their way to the Moon, delve into the incredible career of songwriter Jeff Barry and meet a man who willingly called himself Baron Longfellow.

Then Gavin gets transported into Riverdale to fight The Archies, and we attempt an absolutely brutal One Has to Stay: 1969 edition featuring Elvis, Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Jackson 5, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones and more.

And eventually, somehow, we actually review the song.

Sugar, ah honey honey…
