This week we're taking on Mary Mary's 2000 crossover monster “Shackles (Praise You)” — a song apparently designed to get people dancing their way into Christianity without realising it.

We discover embarrassingly late that the song is actually about God, investigate the theory that “Shackles” was a Trojan horse used to sneak gospel music onto mainstream radio, and try to work out what exactly happened when “everything that could go wrong all went wrong at one time.”
